Although the Minnesota State Lottery already offered its customers the ability to purchase lottery tickets online via their Subscription Site, this month the state lottery expanded the concept of online lottery further, by launching their first online Instant-Win “eScratch” game.
The new eScratch game is called Spicy 7’s, and offers online purchasers the chance to win up to $777 for a $1 purchase.

All purchasers of online tickets, whether traditional or instant-win, must be in the state of Minnesota, and patrons are limited to $50 per week in online lottery purchases.
Not surprisingly, gambling opponents are decrying the launch of the new game as an overreaching expansion into gambling by the lottery, and assert that the legislature should have to approve this kind of online gambling.
Meanwhile, lottery officials describe the new game as only an incremental addition to revenue. The head of the lottery describes the game as a boost to brand awareness and a marketing tool to reach a new demographic of younger players. Lottery revenues in the state are down nearly 3% since last year.
